Trump delays Iran power-plant strikes amid Hormuz talks

Trump paused planned strikes on Iranian power plants for five days, pointing to progress in talks with Tehran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz after a 48-hour ultimatum over the weekend.
President Trump on Monday postponed planned U.S. strikes on Iranian power plants for five days, citing “very good and productive” talks with Iran on reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
In an all-caps post on Truth Social, he wrote that the United States and Iran held “in depth, detailed, and constructive conversations” over the last two days aimed at ending hostilities in the region and restoring traffic through the waterway.
He added that he instructed the “Department of War” to postpone “any and all” strikes on Iranian power and energy infrastructure for five days, “subject to the success of the ongoing meetings and discussions.”

Iran publicly rejected Trump’s version of events. Iranian officials said no negotiations with the United States were underway and denied that any ceasefire had been agreed, while state media framed the delay as a retreat driven by fear of Iran’s response rather than the result of productive talks.
The pause follows a 48-hour ultimatum he issued Saturday threatening attacks if Iran did not open the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian officials had warned they would retaliate against electricity infrastructure in Israel and Gulf countries in response to any U.S. action.
Financial markets reacted after the post. U.S. stock futures, down earlier in the morning, moved higher, and oil prices fell.

Trump indicated the talks would continue through the week and said the delay depends on progress in the negotiations.
