Why is Solana hiring a lot? Foundation Recruiters Share What They See

Solana’s recent hiring surge, sparked by a viral tweet featuring a hand-drawn cartoon of "Low Agency Bob" vs. "High Agency Alice." - The Coinomist

A sketch of “Low Agency Bob” just sparked the most unexpected hiring moment in crypto. Solana recruiters share what it’s like to watch top-tier talent flood in from all directions.

Bob Blames. Alice Builds.

Why is Solana tweeting hand-drawn stick figures in 2025? Because it works.

One stood out this week: a report by the Solana Foundation of a crayon-colored sketch featuring “Low Agency Bob” and “High Agency Alice” In a sea of polished hiring campaigns.

It wasn't just cute. It was telling. The image, which had been circulating online for five years, suddenly became the unofficial mascot for one of crypto's biggest job booms.

In all my years recruiting, I’ve never seen this level of interest—and from such top-tier candidates across every role,

wrote Paul, a recruiter at the Solana Foundation.

Solana, he says, is “drawing serious talent.”

And he's not kidding.

A Thread Becomes a Rallying Cry

Solana didn't create the cartoon. It was first posted in 2020 by product leader Shreyas Doshi, who used it to illustrate a concept he called “High Agency”: the kind of proactive, resourceful, mission-driven attitude that turns “Go-Getters” into “Game Changers.”

High Agency is about finding a way to get what you want, without waiting for conditions to be perfect or otherwise blaming the circumstances.

—  Shreyas Doshi

The stick figure cartoon became legendary in Silicon Valley circles. Now, it's being revived by Solana not just as a cultural touchstone but as a signal: We want builders, not complainers.

Over 300 Open Roles

In its report, the Solana Foundation revealed that there are over 300 open jobs across the ecosystem.

These roles aren't limited to technical expertise. As Paul explained in replies to curious candidates, there are open positions across the board — from infrastructure and developer relations to marketing, ops, and community.

One user inquired, “Are there roles for non-software people? All I have is marketing and public relations experience.”

Paul replied: “All kinds across the board.”

The Solana Careers page, a dedicated resource for job seekers, lists dozens of companies building in the ecosystem. It’s a mosaic of:

  • Protocols,
  • Wallets,
  • DePIN projects,
  • DeFi startups,
  • NFT platforms,
  • Infrastructure tools.

And almost all of them are hiring.

Why the Spike Now?

Some of it is seasonal—funding rounds, token launches, conferences. But insiders suggest a deeper reason: momentum.

“Solana is definitely booming in terms of talent and interest,” wrote user @serpenseth.

“It’s the reason we started building on Solana and Sui,” added @os_kobe. “Other chains are slowing down. Every talent is here.”

Even Switchboard, an oracle project, chimed in:

The talent on chain is 10xing.

So Who’s Alice and Why Should You Care?

In Doshi's original thread, “High Agency Alice” doesn’t make excuses. She finds reasons to act. She’s the person who says, “I will do my best to get this done because I have the ability to overcome the obstacles.”

Highly Talented, High Agency people are Game Changers. When you find them, do whatever you can to get them on your team,

Doshi wrote.

Solana's tweet is more than branding. It's a recruitment philosophy. It's a bet that the next wave of crypto growth won't come from passive hires—it'll come from people who rewrite their job description on day one.

From Cartoon to Culture Fit

In Solana's version of the story, Bob is the guy saying “Company strategy is unclear.” Alice is the one saying, “I will learn from this.”

That difference might seem small. But in ecosystems built on rapid iteration and constant uncertainty, it’s everything.

Crypto doesn’t run on job titles. It runs on initiative.

And Solana? It wants an army of Alices.

The Bigger Picture: Why It Matters

We talk a lot about developer activity as a key metric for network health. But maybe we should be watching something else too: recruiting activity.

You can tell a lot about the future of a chain by what kind of people are banging on its door.

In this case, Solana isn’t just gaining momentum with traders. It’s gaining mindshare with top operators. The kind who look at a messy problem and say, “Cool. Let’s fix it.”

That’s not a hype cycle. That’s a foundation.

And if you believe in composability, speed, or simply getting sh*t done — Alice is already waiting for you.
