UBS Lowers Dell Price Target Ahead of Earnings

UBS cut its price target for Dell Technologies and revised revenue and margin assumptions ahead of the company’s upcoming quarterly earnings report.

UBS lowered its price target for Dell Technologies ahead of the company's upcoming quarterly earnings and adjusted its financial model to reflect weaker demand for client devices and enterprise infrastructure, according to a research note distributed to clients this week.

UBS analysts reworked revenue and margin forecasts across Dell's Client Solutions Group and Infrastructure Solutions Group. The firm cited softer end-user PC demand, more cautious corporate IT spending, pressure on consumer PC pricing and slower orders for servers and storage. The note pointed to an inventory reset at some distributors that has reduced near-term PC shipments.

The research note highlighted longer sales cycles for large enterprise deals, continued competition on pricing for client devices and commodity hardware, and shifts in data-center spending and cloud migration that have changed short-term hardware ordering patterns.

UBS wrote that investors will likely focus on revenue trends in the Client Solutions and Infrastructure segments, gross-margin performance, recurring revenue from services and software, free cash flow and any updates to share repurchases or capital allocation when Dell publishes quarterly results.

The timing of the revision follows a common practice of analysts updating models before major tech earnings. Institutional investors use these pre-earnings notes to identify which line items may move a company’s stock when results are released.

Dell Technologies sells personal computers, servers, storage systems, networking equipment and software and services to consumer and enterprise customers. Quarterly performance reflects consumer demand trends, corporate IT budgets and the timing of large infrastructure deals.

Investors will watch the upcoming report for signs of stabilization in PC demand, the direction of infrastructure sales and management commentary on margin outlook and cash generation. Market participants will compare Dell's actual results to UBS's revised estimates when the company reports.
