Trump: Iran contacted ‘right people,’ nuclear terms stall deal

President Trump said Iran contacted ‘the right people’ seeking a deal, but talks are stalled because Tehran has not agreed to renounce nuclear weapons.
President Trump told reporters this morning that Iran contacted “the right people” seeking a deal, but negotiations are stalled because Tehran has not agreed to renounce nuclear weapons. He said any agreement must include limits on Iran's nuclear program and the return of nuclear material to U.S. control.
Trump praised Vance for his work on the talks and described Iranian officials as eager to reach an accord. He identified the central dispute as whether Tehran will commit not to possess a nuclear weapon and warned that without such a commitment “there will be no deal.” He added that the United States must prevent Iran from “blackmail[ing] the world” and that U.S. control of nuclear material would be restored: “We'll get nuclear material back.”
The president reported an early-morning contact, writing, “We were called this morning by the right people and they want a deal.” He linked the negotiations to energy and shipping developments, saying “many countries are coming to the US for oil.” In a separate post he wrote, “34 Ships went through the Strait of Hormuz yesterday, which is by far the highest number since this foolish closure began.”
U.S. and Iranian representatives remain in contact while negotiators work to convert Tehran's outreach into specific, enforceable terms on nuclear restraints. Any final arrangement will depend on agreement over limits, verification and control of nuclear material.
