Texas brothers plead guilty to $8M crypto home invasion
Two Texas brothers pleaded guilty after holding a Minnesota family at gunpoint for more than eight hours and forcing transfers of over $8 million in cryptocurrency; they face up to 20 years.
Isiah Angelo Garcia, 25, and Raymond Christian Garcia, 24, both of Waller, Texas, pleaded guilty Thursday to one count of interference with commerce by robbery in U.S. District Court in Minneapolis before Judge Ann Montgomery.
Federal court filings show the men traveled to Grant, Minnesota, on Sept. 19, 2025, entered a family home, restrained and zip-tied the occupants and held them at gunpoint for more than eight hours while demanding access to the victims' cryptocurrency accounts.
Isiah Garcia then drove one victim to the family's cabin in northern Minnesota and forced him to retrieve additional crypto storage devices and transfer funds. Over the course of the incident, the brothers took more than $8 million in cryptocurrency.
The ordeal ended after the victim's son called 911. The brothers fled, but investigators traced items left at the home, identified the suspects and arrested them near Houston.
Both men acknowledged using firearms during the robbery. They have agreed to pay more than $8 million in restitution. Sentencing has not been scheduled; each faces a maximum of 20 years in federal prison.
Christopher Dotson, special agent in charge of the FBI's Minneapolis office, said “no one should ever feel unsafe in their own home” and that the FBI and its law enforcement partners would aggressively investigate the violence.
Prosecutors said the case is one of several recent crimes targeting cryptocurrency holders, including a separate Florida prosecution involving a bitcoin-related carjacking and kidnapping and multiple charges in France linked to attacks known as “wrench attacks.”
