Tether to retire aUSDT and close Alloy platform
Tether will wind down the aUSDT stablecoin and shut its Alloy platform, reallocating staff and resources to USDT issuance and reserve management and providing guidance to holders.
Tether announced it will retire the aUSDT stablecoin and shut down the Alloy platform to concentrate resources on issuing and managing USDT, the company's flagship stablecoin.
The company did not provide a detailed timeline for the wind-down. It said the process will be managed to limit disruption and that it will provide information to holders and platform operators about converting or redeeming aUSDT balances and the orderly cessation of Alloy services. Specific deadlines, conversion mechanisms and any fees were not disclosed.
aUSDT was one of several stablecoin variants issued for use across different blockchains and trading venues. Alloy has operated as a platform linked to Tether's broader business activities. Tether will cease development and support for Alloy and reassign personnel and technical resources to USDT issuance and related infrastructure.
Tether said the change will allow it to prioritize liquidity, reserve oversight and the distribution of USDT across exchanges and blockchain networks. The announcement characterized the shift as a narrowing of business priorities rather than an exit from crypto markets.
The company indicated it will coordinate with affected platforms but did not name specific partners. Market operators that integrated aUSDT or Alloy services will need to update systems and notify customers about migration or redemption steps.
Tether issues USDT across multiple blockchains and maintains reserves to back redemptions and support market liquidity. USDT is the largest stablecoin by market capitalization and is widely used for trading and settlement in cryptocurrency markets.
Tether did not link the wind-down to any specific regulatory action or single market event. It said further details for aUSDT holders and Alloy users will be published and that technical support will be available during the transition.
Market participants and custodians that rely on Tether's products are expected to adjust custody, settlement and liquidity plans once the company releases a detailed schedule and conversion options. The crypto industry will track any short-term liquidity effects as aUSDT balances are moved or redeemed and Alloy services are taken offline.
