Sui blockchain halts for two hours; third outage since 2024
Sui halted block production for nearly two hours Thursday in a network stall, its third major outage since November 2024 while engineers implement a fix.
On Thursday the Sui blockchain stopped producing blocks for nearly two hours in what the project described as a “network stall.” Block explorer SuiScan showed no new blocks during the interruption, and the team posted on X: “The Sui Core team is actively working on a solution. Transactions may be paused at this time.”
The blockchain's status page later reported that the issue had been identified and a fix was being implemented as of 07:36 PDT. Engineers and validators investigated node behavior and monitored transaction flow while applying corrective measures.
Users and developers reported slowed or stalled transactions during the outage. Public monitoring tools and messages from the project pointed to a temporary operational interruption rather than a security breach, and there was no indication that user funds were at risk.
This is the third notable disruption for Sui in about 18 months, following outages in November 2024 and January 2026. Sui is a high-throughput Layer 1 blockchain developed primarily by Mysten Labs, a team that originated from Meta's canceled Diem stablecoin and wallet project.
The Sui Core team continued to post status updates as they worked to restore block production and verify network stability. Users building on the network were advised to monitor official Sui channels for further updates while the fix is deployed.
