Ramp adds zero-fee USDT-to-USD conversions

Peter Thiel-backed fintech Ramp introduced zero-fee conversions between Tether’s USDT and U.S. dollars across its platform.

Ramp announced that customers can convert holdings in Tether's USDT into U.S. dollars on its platform without paying conversion fees. The feature is available across the company's product suite.

Ramp provides corporate cards and financial software for businesses. The conversion tool lets customers move between on-platform USDT balances and dollar balances held with Ramp without an added conversion charge. Users converting funds on-chain may still pay blockchain network fees tied to the token network they use.

The company said the change aims to reduce conversion costs for customers that hold stablecoins for cash management or payment flows. Support for USDT, a widely used dollar-pegged stablecoin, lets businesses convert between crypto and fiat without a per-transaction conversion fee that often appears on other on- and off-ramps.

Ramp rolled out the capability across its suite so companies using the platform for card spending, expense management or treasury functions can access the feature without switching services. The platform supports integrations used by finance teams and developers, and the zero-fee offering applies to conversions performed within those integrated flows.

The change does not remove all costs. When customers move USDT on public blockchains, network fees and gas costs set by the underlying chain still apply. Ramp's zero-fee policy covers the conversion itself, not external network transaction fees or potential custodial or banking fees tied to fiat withdrawals or deposits.

Ramp listed the zero-fee USDT-to-USD conversions as part of its existing product features and did not specify pricing changes for other crypto assets.
