Ledn adds Tether’s XAUT gold token as loan collateral
Ledn will let customers borrow against Tether’s XAUT gold token the same way as Bitcoin-backed loans, the company announced; XAUT loans will launch after integration is complete.
Ledn added support for Tether's XAUT gold token on its lending platform, the company announced Thursday. Once the integration is complete, customers can use XAUT as collateral and borrow in the same way they borrow against Bitcoin.
Each XAUT token represents one fine troy ounce of physical gold held in Swiss vaults. Using XAUT lets borrowers gain exposure to physical gold while keeping assets in token form.
Ledn said it will apply its custody, risk-management and liquidation systems to protect client assets during the life of each loan. The company did not provide a specific launch date for XAUT-backed loans.
Tether made a strategic investment in Ledn in November 2025. Ledn's statement noted that Tether's USDT is the world's largest stablecoin and that Tether holds roughly $23 billion in gold bullion.
Paolo Ardoino, Tether's chief executive, wrote: “The addition of XAUT, USDT and USAT expands opportunities and reflects the growing role of digital assets in modern financial markets.”
Ledn reported it has originated more than $10 billion in loans since 2018. Ledn co-founder Adam Reeds added: “Bitcoin stays at the center of how our clients build wealth. Gold sits beside it, the same hard-asset thinking applied to the oldest store of value there is.”
The crypto lending sector faced major failures in 2022 when several centralized lenders filed for bankruptcy. Ledn highlighted its custody and liquidation controls as part of why it was expanding the types of collateral it accepts.
The company said the addition of XAUT broadens collateral options and gives clients more flexibility in using tokenized versions of traditional stores of value.
