KuCoin guide: what investors should know
KuCoin serves 45M+ users in 200+ countries, lists 1,000+ tokens and offers spot, margin and futures trading, a Web3 wallet, Earn products and the KCS token.
KuCoin is a centralized cryptocurrency exchange founded in 2017. The platform reports more than 45 million users across over 200 countries and lists more than 1,000 digital assets. Its product lineup includes spot, margin and futures trading, a built-in Web3 wallet, yield products and the native token KCS.
Spot trading on KuCoin is divided into three fee tiers. Class A pairs carry 0.1% maker and taker fees, Class B 0.2% and Class C 0.3%. Futures fees are 0.02% maker and 0.06% taker. Some futures contracts offer up to 100x leverage, with maximum leverage varying by asset. The exchange operates a VIP fee tier based on 30-day trading volume or KCS holdings. Paying spot fees in KCS gives an additional 20% discount. Crypto deposits have no platform fee; fiat on-ramps vary by currency. KuCoin provides SEPA deposits and withdrawals for euros and local rails for Brazilian reais at €1 per SEPA transaction, while card purchases and third-party gateways can incur fees up to about 5%.
KuCoin offers a peer-to-peer marketplace with an escrow system, a Convert feature for simple token swaps, and automated trading bots that run strategies such as spot and futures grid trading and dollar-cost averaging. KuCoin Earn includes staking, savings, lending and structured products with flexible and fixed terms. Token discovery and early-access services include Spotlight token sales, GemPool airdrop distributions, KuCoin Alpha for early-stage trading and Pre-Market Trading for OTC allocations before public listings.
KCS is the platform’s native token. Mid-2026 KuCoin reported a circulating supply near 137 million with a maximum supply capped at 200 million. KCS holders can receive trading fee discounts, daily bonus distributions from a share of exchange fee revenue, governance voting rights and enhanced rewards in certain products. KuCoin reports periodic buybacks and burns funded by part of exchange profits.
In 2025 KuCoin launched a multi-year Trust Project with a reported $2 billion budget for security infrastructure, risk management, custody and transparency efforts. The company holds SOC 2 Type II, ISO/IEC 27001:2022, ISO/IEC 27701 and the Cryptocurrency Security Standard Certification. KuCoin publishes Proof of Reserves snapshots and provides tools for eligible users to verify inclusion. Operational controls include wallet-management systems, transaction monitoring and optional account safeguards such as two-factor authentication.
Account opening requires identity verification (KYC) and some services require additional checks or eligibility. KuCoin is available across much of Europe, Asia and Latin America but is not accessible to U.S. residents. The exchange’s European entity holds MiCA registration and its Australian operations are registered with AUSTRAC. Product availability differs by jurisdiction and users should confirm local terms.
The mobile app includes a Web3 wallet that supports multiple chains and access to decentralized applications. KuCoin Pay and KuCard provide payment options in eligible markets. The platform also offers an AI assistant, KIA, and a social content feed for market discussion.
KuCoin warns that leveraged and margin products carry high risk and that automated trading tools do not guarantee profits. Users are advised to select the correct blockchain network and deposit address when transferring crypto, as using the wrong network can result in permanent loss. Rates, lock-up periods and redemption rules vary across Earn products and program terms, fees and availability may change.
