Iran president: Ceasefire breached, asks for probe
Iran’s president announced a recent ceasefire was violated and called for an independent inquiry with on-site verification, public findings and measures to hold those responsible accountable.
Iran’s president announced that a recently reached ceasefire was violated and called for an independent international inquiry to identify those responsible.
The presidency released a written statement, noting the breach occurred after both parties had agreed to halt hostilities under terms negotiated by regional mediators and international actors. The statement added the violation followed days of tension and sporadic exchanges and represented a departure from the agreement.
The statement did not identify a single actor as solely responsible and stressed that evidence of violations must be examined.
The president urged regional organizations and the United Nations to open an impartial investigation with on-the-ground verification, a review of communications during the ceasefire period and a public report of findings. He requested that any inquiry include measures to ensure compliance, including sanctions or referral to international bodies if warranted.
Officials noted Iran will continue to press for de-escalation while protecting its security interests and expect mediators to enforce the terms they broker. State commentary called the breach a setback for recent diplomatic efforts and added Tehran would coordinate with partners to prevent further breaches.
The presidency described the breach as “unacceptable” and pledged to share forensic material and evidence with relevant international bodies and mediators; it did not publish documents publicly.
Iran has been a central player in several regional conflicts, backing allied groups and participating in diplomatic efforts. Recent ceasefires in the region have been brokered by regional states and international organizations, but enforcement has often depended on local guarantors and external pressure, and past violations have led to renewed fighting.
The presidency added Iran will continue to engage in diplomacy while maintaining readiness to respond to threats and will press for a transparent inquiry whose findings lead to practical measures to prevent further breaches.
