Grayscale negotiating $115M in HYPE tokens for ETF

Grayscale’s filing shows it is negotiating to seed its proposed Grayscale Hyperliquid Staking ETF with 2 million HYPE tokens-about $115 million-from Hyper Holdings Global LP.

An updated filing shows Grayscale is negotiating to accept 2 million HYPE tokens from Hyper Holdings Global LP in exchange for shares in its proposed fund, renamed Grayscale Hyperliquid Staking ETF. The ETF's Nasdaq ticker is HYPG.

The filing frames the token transfer as a “seed capital investment.” The 2 million HYPE tokens were valued at about $115 million as of Thursday.

The document names Hyper Holdings Global LP as the counterparty but offers no further information about the investor. ETF analyst James Seyffart flagged the reference and asked on social media, “Soooo, anyone know who or what ‘Hyper Holdings Global LP' is?”

Earlier this month two asset managers launched HYPE-backed ETFs. Those launches drew investor inflows and coincided with the HYPE token reaching a record above $60.

Market data show one of the early Hyperliquid ETFs has seen trading volume rise steadily since its debut, reaching roughly eight times its first-day activity. Analyst Eric Balchunas called the pattern “a really good sign of organic interest.”

Seed investments for new ETFs can be cash or in-kind assets such as tokens. These contributions provide initial liquidity and help market makers establish orderly trading. Grayscale's filing treats the token transfer as part of a seed arrangement rather than a sale of existing shares.

Grayscale, which manages multiple crypto investment products, is progressing with its Hyperliquid application. The updated name includes “Staking,” though the filing does not describe staking mechanics or any expected yields.
