F2Pool Co-Founder Chun Wang to Join Two-Year SpaceX Mars Flight

Chun Wang, co-founder of bitcoin mining pool operator F2Pool, will participate in two upcoming SpaceX human missions aboard the Starship spacecraft: an approximately one-week commercial flight around the Moon and a subsequent two-year mission that will travel beyond the Earth-Moon system, perform a Mars fly-by and return to Earth.

SpaceX did not provide specific launch dates or a full crew list in its announcement. The company described the longer mission as a two-year voyage outside the Earth-Moon system with a planned fly-by of Mars before the spacecraft returns home.

Wang has prior experience with SpaceX missions. He served as mission commander on Fram2, SpaceX’s first crewed polar orbit mission, completed in 2025.

SpaceX said it has flown 78 crew members on 20 missions since 2020, including seven commercial and private astronaut flights.

Wang co-founded F2Pool with Shixing Mao in 2013. The mining pool grew into one of the world’s largest bitcoin mining pool operators and holds an 11.5% market share, according to Hashrate Index data.

In an attached video, Wang said, “After we come back from Mars, we will have the opportunity to take some real photos, especially of Mars. Mars will no longer be a distant place. It will become reality.”

SpaceX described both flights as part of its effort to expand human travel beyond low Earth orbit and to create commercial options for trips to the Moon and Mars. No further operational details were released.
