Empery Sells 1,400 BTC to Fund AI Data Center

Empery Digital sold 1,400 BTC for about $87.1 million to fund an AI data center expansion, repay $10 million of debt and cover legal costs, the company disclosed.

Empery Digital (Nasdaq: EMPD) sold 1,400 bitcoins for about $87.1 million, the company disclosed in an SEC filing on Friday. The coins were sold at an average price of about $62,200 per bitcoin since May 7.

The 8-K filing states the cash proceeds will repay $10 million in outstanding debt, help fund a $65 million commitment to an AI data center project and cover unspecified legal expenses. The $65 million commitment will give Empery a 25% stake in a venture affiliated with Hunt Properties that plans to acquire a power-rich industrial site in the U.S. and convert it into an AI data center campus.

The filing describes the sale as Empery’s largest reduction of its bitcoin holdings to date and notes the company is pausing its prior accumulation approach. After the disposals, Empery held 1,514 BTC, worth nearly $100 million, and reported about $74 million in cash on hand as of July 10.

Empery launched its bitcoin treasury business last year after shifting away from electric powersports vehicles. The company raised more than $500 million in July to support that strategy and at its peak accumulated more than 4,000 BTC, putting it among the top 25 publicly traded bitcoin holders.

Empery’s shares rose about 1% on Friday. The stock remains down nearly 18% year-to-date and about 82% since the company began its bitcoin treasury strategy last July.
