The Dow Jones Industrial Average edged above 47,895 on April 17 as a steeper U.S. Treasury yield curve lifted expectations for bank profitability and put 48,850 resistance in focus.
The 10-year minus 2-year Treasury yield spread fell to 0.48 percentage points in the week of March 16 and rose to about 0.53 percentage points by April 17. On technical charts, the DJIA has traded in a narrow ascending channel since the March 30 low and was above its 20-day, 50-day and 200-day moving averages. Short-term momentum on the hourly relative strength index recovered after a bounce from about 43 on April 16. Near-term resistance is identified at 48,850. Levels cited by technical analysis include intermediate ceilings at 49,180 and 49,250 and a target band between 49,715 and 49,835, while supports appear at 47,460 and in the 46,970–46,710 area where the 20-day and 200-day moving averages converge.
Since the recovery in risk assets that followed a ceasefire agreement on February 8, 2026, the Dow has trailed other major U.S. indices. From the pre-conflict baseline on February 27 through April 16, the DJIA was about 0.8% lower. Over the same period, the S&P 500 rose 2.4%, the Russell 2000 gained 3.3% and the Nasdaq 100 advanced 5.5%.
Traders are watching further moves in Treasury yields and hourly price action in equities. Key intraday levels for the Dow are the 48,850 resistance and support points at 47,460 and 46,970–46,710.
