Crypto thefts fall 7% to $76M; Humanity Protocol hit hardest

Blockchain security firm PeckShield recorded $76 million in on-chain crypto thefts in June, a 7% decline from roughly $82 million in May. The firm's tally covers reported incidents across decentralized finance platforms, token contracts and related services.

PeckShield's dataset shows the $76 million total reflects funds taken through exploits, unauthorized access and scams identified via its monitoring and incident reports.

In its June ranking, PeckShield named Humanity Protocol the most-affected project. The monthly list identifies protocols and tokens that experienced the largest losses during the month.

Security firms track incidents by following suspicious wallet activity, exploit disclosures and reports from affected teams. Developers, auditors and insurers monitor protocol risk and review incident disclosures.

Typical responses after a theft include emergency contract patches, token freezes when possible, public incident reports, independent audits, notifications to users and coordination with analytics firms and centralized services to trace or recover funds.

PeckShield and comparable analytics providers publish monthly and real-time updates on incidents. Large-scale hacks and exploits in recent years have led some projects to increase use of code audits and bug bounty programs.
