Crypto Council acquires Digital Energy Council

Crypto Council for Innovation has acquired the Digital Energy Council, integrating the energy-focused group’s staff and programs into the council’s policy and sustainability teams.

Crypto Council for Innovation acquired the Digital Energy Council, the two groups announced this week. The acquisition will integrate the Digital Energy Council’s programs and staff into the Crypto Council’s policy and sustainability teams. The organizations described the transaction as the Crypto Council’s first acquisition focused on energy.

Under the agreement, the Digital Energy Council’s initiatives on power-sector engagement, energy-market research and technical outreach will be combined with the Crypto Council’s work on regulation, standards and industry coordination. The joint statement noted the intention is to align policy research, stakeholder engagement and technical resources.

Staff from the Digital Energy Council will join the Crypto Council’s energy policy team and will continue to engage with utilities, grid operators and regulators. Members of the Digital Energy Council will be invited to take part in the Crypto Council’s working groups on sustainability, technical standards and public policy. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

The groups said the combined effort will focus on improving data and transparency around energy use in digital-asset operations, coordinating research on grid reliability and power demand, and engaging policymakers on market design and emissions reporting. The Crypto Council wrote that the integration will support development of technical guidance and standards for industry participants, grid stakeholders and regulators.

The announcement included plans to preserve the Digital Energy Council’s research projects and to continue convening industry and utility partners for workshops and technical forums. Administrative and policy support will be absorbed into the Crypto Council’s operations.

The joint statement read,

“We will preserve the Digital Energy Council's ongoing research and expand engagement with power-sector stakeholders while joining administrative and policy resources.”

The Crypto Council for Innovation is a trade association representing companies in the digital-asset sector. The Digital Energy Council was formed to address technical and policy questions where digital-asset systems intersect with energy markets and grid operations.
