California duo indicted for laundering darknet drug crypto

Federal prosecutors indicted Nicholas Aguilar and Jessica Marcolina on charges alleging they operated darknet vendor accounts under the name ‘HotGirlzClub,' sold fentanyl and methamphetamine, and laundered the proceeds through cryptocurrency transactions.

The Department of Justice statement says the pair ran vendor accounts on multiple darknet marketplaces and shipped more than 500 drug parcels to locations across the United States during a seven-month period in 2025. Court filings allege the operation moved hundreds of thousands of dollars in cryptocurrency linked to those sales.

Searches of the defendants' residence in California recovered drug packaging materials, a food processor with suspected narcotics residue, firearms, and warning labels reading, “be safe until you know your tolerance for the product.” Authorities also found equipment and parts consistent with illicit firearms manufacturing, including components for ghost guns, suppressors and upper and lower receivers.

The indictment charges Aguilar and Marcolina with drug trafficking conspiracy and money laundering conspiracy. Conviction on the drug trafficking counts carries potential sentences up to life in prison; the money laundering conspiracy counts carry potential penalties of up to 20 years. The filings did not include a trial date.

The case is part of a wider federal enforcement effort targeting darknet drug sales and crypto-enabled money laundering. Recent actions by federal agencies have included sanctions and indictments aimed at networks and entities accused of converting drug proceeds into cryptocurrency and supplying fentanyl precursors.

The Department of Justice framed the indictments as part of ongoing efforts to disrupt online narcotics distribution and associated financial networks. The defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
