Bitmine, Sharplink and Lubin Back Ethereum Institutional

Bitmine, Sharplink and Consensys CEO Joseph Lubin are anchor funders of Ethereum Institutional, a nonprofit launched Wednesday to accelerate institutional adoption of Ethereum and its layer-2 networks, the organization announced.
The group was founded by longtime Ethereum backer David Walsh and other contributors. It will act as an independent, neutral partner for firms evaluating or building on Ethereum and plans to provide institutional engagement, education, advisory services and marketing for ETH. The founding team intends to scale work previously run by the Ethereum Foundation's Enterprise unit.
Walsh wrote on X, “For years, Ethereum has had the most credibly neutral, liquid, and battle-tested base layer in crypto. What it lacked was a neutral party responsible for the wider ecosystem's institutional go-to-market, someone in the room with institutions, representing Ethereum as a whole rather than any single product or vendor.” He added the group aims to be “an honest, neutral counterpart” institutions can contact when building on Ethereum.
The nonprofit named Bitmine and Sharplink-two large ETH treasury firms-and Joseph Lubin, co-founder of Ethereum and CEO of Consensys, as anchor funders. The announcement referenced a broader coalition of individual and institutional contributors without naming them. All three anchor backers are also listed as supporters of EthLabs, a separate organization formed by former Ethereum Foundation staff to continue protocol research and development.
The launch follows a recent reorganization at the Ethereum Foundation, which cut about 20% of staff last month and restructured into domain-focused clusters that include protocol, access, user, community and institutional areas alongside operations and management. Several senior executives left the foundation in recent months and some former employees joined EthLabs.
Geoffrey Kendrick, Standard Chartered's Global Head of Digital Assets Research, wrote that the twin launches should improve communication between Ethereum's technical and commercial communities and could help more institutions place tokenized assets and market infrastructure on Ethereum and its ecosystem.
Ethereum Institutional plans to help institutions evaluate the full set of Ethereum options, including layer-2 solutions, and to provide clear, unbiased briefings to corporate leadership. The group said it will work with other ecosystem participants on institutional engagement and ETH marketing.
At publication time ETH traded around $1,615, up roughly 3.3% on the day.
