BitGo CEO: Low single-digit Bitcoin stakes fit large holders

BitGo’s CEO suggested low single-digit percentages of Bitcoin supply are appropriate for large holders as the Strategy continues selling portions of its holdings.

BitGo's CEO made recent remarks as the Strategy has been selling portions of its Bitcoin holdings, describing low single-digit percentages of Bitcoin's total supply as ‘probably right' for large holders to reduce concentration risk.

The executive framed the view around risk management and market stability, arguing that when one investor or a small group controls a large share of available supply, volatility can increase and liquidity planning becomes more complex for institutions and exchanges.

BitGo provides custody and security services to institutional crypto holders. Company leadership advises clients on storage, compliance and operational steps for large positions. The executive noted that large holders must balance potential returns with the practical limits of holding a scarce asset, and that keeping exposure in the low single digits can reduce market impact from forced or planned sales.

Market participants track sales by large holders closely because Bitcoin's capped supply of 21 million coins can magnify price effects of big transactions. When large blocks of coins are moved or offered, trading desks and custodians manage execution to limit sharp price swings, using staged auctions, over-the-counter trades or other methods.

Custodians also assist with liquidity planning, governance and reporting. The executive's remarks add a custody-sector perspective on sizing institutional Bitcoin allocations. Sellers may reduce concentrated exposure for reasons such as portfolio rebalancing, regulatory scrutiny, client redemptions or to raise cash for other investments.

Bitcoin's fixed issuance schedule and periodic halvings limit new supply while demand changes over time. Large, concentrated holdings have led custodians, exchanges and trading desks to develop tools and practices for handling large trades.
