Bitcoin nears $63,000; Coinbase premium negative 60 days

Bitcoin neared $63,000 as the Coinbase premium stayed negative for a record 60 days.

Bitcoin neared $63,000 in recent trading as the Coinbase premium remained below zero for 60 consecutive days, the longest run on record.

The Coinbase premium measures the difference between Bitcoin’s price on Coinbase and prices on other major exchanges. A negative premium means Bitcoin is trading for less on Coinbase than on other platforms. The premium has been negative for 60 straight days.

A sustained negative premium can result from stronger buying pressure on non-U.S. exchanges, heavier selling on Coinbase, or technical factors such as differences in liquidity and flows between spot markets and derivatives.

Traders who monitor cross-exchange spreads view prolonged gaps as creating arbitrage opportunities: buying where the price is lower and selling where it is higher, which tends to narrow the spread over time.

Bitcoin’s price approaching $63,000 remains below its all-time high near $69,000 reached in November 2021. The negative Coinbase premium persisted as spot prices rose across global venues.

Exchange-level premiums are one of several indicators market participants track. Funding rates in derivatives markets, institutional flows into spot products, macroeconomic data and regulatory developments also affect price movement.
