Aven launches Bitcoin-backed Visa card with $1M credit
Aven launched a Visa card that lets customers pledge Bitcoin as collateral for U.S. dollar credit lines up to $1 million without selling their BTC.
Aven launched a Visa card that allows customers to use Bitcoin as collateral to obtain U.S. dollar revolving credit lines of up to $1 million. Cardholders can spend against the credit line anywhere Visa is accepted without converting their Bitcoin to cash.
The product ties a revolving credit facility to Bitcoin holdings held with Aven. Customers pledge Bitcoin as security and receive an approved credit limit in dollars. Aven’s onboarding and credit approval process determines eligibility and the initial borrowing capacity, and the company tracks and values collateral to update available credit.
The credit line works like a traditional line of credit: borrowers can draw funds up to their approved limit, repay amounts to restore capacity, and continue to access credit while they meet account terms. Charges made with the Visa-branded card convert draws from the credit line into fiat at the point of sale, and the card can be used for purchases and ATM withdrawals where Visa is accepted.
The program includes risk-management rules tied to collateral value. If Bitcoin’s price falls and the collateral no longer supports the outstanding balance at the lender’s required loan-to-value ratio, borrowers may need to add collateral or repay part of the line to avoid forced liquidation. Interest rates, fees, loan-to-value ratios and other terms vary by account and by jurisdiction and are disclosed during account opening.
Aven positions the offering as an integration of payment rails with crypto-backed credit services: Visa provides merchant acceptance and standard card processing while Aven manages custody, valuation and underwriting. The product is aimed at retail customers with significant Bitcoin balances and at institutional or high-net-worth clients who meet underwriting thresholds for larger limits. Customers can apply through Aven’s platform to view specific terms, available credit against their holdings, and disclosures on collateral management, repayment obligations and tax and regulatory considerations.
