Vanguard is recruiting a senior digital-asset executive to lead crypto strategy for personal wealth clients, engage with regulators and help shape market standards, according to a job posting published Monday.
The posting describes the position as the firm's “senior subject matter expert” on digital assets, responsible “to shape and deliver a scalable end-to-end strategy” across cryptocurrency initiatives. The role centers on personal wealth clients and includes regulatory engagement and work on market standards. The listing is the first public Vanguard search for a role to coordinate crypto strategy across the firm.
Vanguard reported $12 trillion in assets under management at the end of 2025. The search comes while other large asset managers have launched spot Bitcoin and Ethereum exchange-traded funds; Vanguard has maintained a more cautious approach. Vanguard CEO Salim Ramji previously stated the firm would not launch a crypto-based ETF.
Vanguard has taken some steps that expose it to cryptocurrencies. Last year it allowed funds that hold bitcoin, Solana, XRP and ether to trade on its platform. At one point last year Vanguard was the largest shareholder in Strategy, a company that holds a large bitcoin treasury. Vanguard described bitcoin as an “immature asset class” and characterized it as inappropriate for long-term investors.
The job posting highlights regulatory engagement, scalable strategy and cross-firm coordination, indicating responsibilities across product, compliance, client education and external advocacy.
The listing follows a broader trend of major financial firms creating dedicated crypto leadership roles to manage regulatory risk and client demand. Vanguard's hiring will increase the firm's capacity to assess and respond to developments in digital assets while keeping its product strategy distinct from firms that have launched crypto ETFs.
