Kash Patel Discloses Six-Figure MicroStrategy Trade Late

FBI Director Kash Patel amended his ethics filing to report a $100,001–$250,000 MicroStrategy stock purchase made Nov. 21, 2025, citing an “inadvertent omission”.

FBI Director Kash Patel amended his federal ethics filing on May 26, 2026, to report a purchase of MicroStrategy common stock valued between $100,001 and $250,000. The trade occurred on Nov. 21, 2025, and the filing described the delay as an “inadvertent omission.”

Justice Department records attribute the late disclosure to a miscommunication, and a DOJ review cited an internal exchange of information as the source of the reporting delay. FBI officials confirmed the corrected paperwork was submitted and later approved.

Under the STOCK Act, covered executive-branch officials must report securities transactions above $1,000 within 30 days of notification and no later than 45 days after the transaction. First-time violations carry a fine of up to $200. An FBI official confirmed no fine has been issued in this case.

The purchase places Patel among holders of MicroStrategy, a company with a large corporate bitcoin position. The firm reports holding 847,363 bitcoins, valued at about $51.3 billion.

MicroStrategy shares rose roughly 7.4% after the amended filing and closed at $93.39 on the Nasdaq.

On Wall Street, Benchmark maintained a $570 price target for the stock, while TD Cowen lowered its target to $260 from $400, citing a lower bitcoin price forecast and referencing the company’s capital framework.

Patel’s amended filing now lists the November transaction and reflects the updated reporting. The DOJ review and agency correspondence outline the sequence of events that led to the delayed report.
