Fairshake-backed Barry Moore wins Alabama GOP Senate primary

Fairshake-backed Republican Barry Moore won the Alabama GOP primary for the open U.S. Senate seat after the crypto-focused PAC spent more than $10 million supporting him.

Barry Moore, backed by the crypto-focused political action committee Fairshake, won the Republican primary for Alabama’s open U.S. Senate seat on Tuesday, defeating Jared Hudson. The seat is being vacated by Sen. Tommy Tuberville, who is running for governor. Moore had an endorsement from former President Donald Trump. On X, Moore wrote: “Yesterday, conservatives all across the Yellowhammer State put their trust in me to be the @ALGOP nominee for U.S. Senate in November. I’m deeply humbled by and so grateful for all of the support we’ve received throughout our state, and I look forward to bringing this race home on November 3.”

Federal Election Commission filings show entities affiliated with Fairshake spent more than $10 million in support of Moore, including on advertising. Fairshake has said it raised roughly $193 million earlier this year. Geoff Vetter, a Fairshake spokesperson, described the Moore expenditure as the PAC's “biggest spend of the cycle” and noted the group has “nearly $150 million cash on hand” and intends to continue supporting pro-crypto candidates for Congress.

Moore’s legislative record includes several crypto-related actions. He introduced a bill to clarify when an entity qualifies as a money-transmitting business under federal law, a measure aimed at protecting software developers. He voted for a federal stablecoin law that became law last year, supported a broader digital-asset regulatory bill, and cosponsored legislation that would ban a central bank digital currency.

Fairshake’s spending has extended to other races this year. The PAC backed Democratic Rep. Christian Menefee in Texas, who defeated Rep. Al Green in a primary runoff. The group also spent against Illinois Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton in a Democratic primary; Stratton prevailed.

With Tuesday’s primary win, Moore becomes the Republican nominee and will advance to the November general election for the Senate seat.
